Sarah Burton Weaves a Tale of Hugenots and Gardens

Danielle Greene

Sarah Burton's RTW Spring 2016 Collection for Alexander McQueen was, in her own words,  “Powerfully feminine." Backstage, she also said, “I wanted it to be believable, touchable, soft." While there were nods to modernity in the body jewelry and blazers, this was a self-proclaimed departure from her previous collections, which emphasized bondage, corsetry, and tough luxe.

Danielle Greene

"Trends aren't important for us. We don't look at them. We do what we like. The woman who buys Marni, she isn't going to get rid of something the next season. She doesn't get bored of it. She can wear it another way, with something new, or from three years ago. Our clients love our clothes and hold on to them." Consuelo Castiglioni, 2014, interview with the UK Telegraph.

Givenchy Spring Summer 2016 Runway Show at NYFW

Danielle Greene

Last week, I wrote about my Willy Wonka moment-I’d actually won a pair of “golden tickets” to attend Givenchy’s show at New York Fashion Week. As people wandered in, I was treated to seeing designers that have inspired and informed my taste, including Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, and Rachel Zoe...And finally, the show began. Refreshing the webpage until it was 10 AM, I quickly completed the form and clicked send. And then I left for Paris two days later, without a stitch to wear to my first runway show.

A Meandering 8 Hours in Paris & My Dream Clutch

Danielle Greene

So, when I made my way to the front of the line at the Louis Vuitton store there, without a thought, the first question I asked was whether they happened to have any of my dream bags in stock...I'm sure I'm not the only one who has seen a bag, immediately become starry-eyed, obsessed over it, looked for similar versions because said bag seemed to be sold out everywhere, tried moving on only to become reinfatuated a few months later.

Three pairs of Alexander McQueen's infamous, sublime 2010 armadillo heels sold for a total of $295,000 in Christie's auction, with proceeds donated to Alexander McQueen's UNICEF fund for relief efforts for earthquakes in Nepal. Made of wood and python, few have dared to wear these massive heels off the runway aside from Lady Gaga and Daphne Guiness.

Alexander McQueen Resort 2016-Sarah Burton's Anti-Revolution?

Danielle Greene

Sarah Burton's Alexander McQueen 2016 Resort Collection is a distinct departure from the infamously macabre energy of the House for over 15 years. According to Burton about the collection, "It's the very opposite of last season's darkness, and all about growth, freshness, springtime - and optimism."

Paris Part 3: Chanel Overload

Danielle Greene

One of my last stops at the Paris Flea Market was a pair of boutiques overflowing with Chanel jewelry, bags, clothes, and other objets de desire. The red rope at the entrance foreshadowed the starstruck feeling that hit me when I walked inside.
